And when she stepped out on Monday to welcome the White House Christmas tree, it wasn\u2019t the evergreen that stole the show.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The North Portico of the White House was steeped in holiday pageantry on November 24, 2025, but the towering 18.5-foot Christmas tree arriving by horse-drawn carriage wasn\u2019t what stopped people in their tracks.<\/p>\n

The First Lady stepped out in Washington, D.C., to accept the official White House Christmas tree and kick off the season\u2019s traditions. But what should have been a charming, heartwarming photo op quickly morphed into a full-blown online spectacle \u2014 all because of her outfit.<\/p>\n

Also known as the\u00a0Blue Room Christmas Tree, the massive Michigan-grown fir from Korson\u2019s Tree Farms rolled up to the mansion in classic style: two majestic Clydesdales, Logan and Ben, pulled the carriage while a military band played festive tunes. Three handlers in vintage suits and top hats completed the nostalgic scene.<\/p>\n

The tradition of presenting the White House Christmas tree dates back to the 19th century, though accounts differ on the exact year it began.<\/p>\n

Since 1961, the tree has carried a themed motif each holiday season, chosen by the First Lady of the United States.<\/p>\n

And as Melania stood on the North Portico steps, cool and composed as ever, praising the delivery as \u201ca beautiful tree,\u201d social media had already zoomed in, not on the tree, but on her winter look.<\/p>\n

The coat that launched a thousand comments<\/h2>\n

The First Lady wore a crisp winter-white Dior coat, bright red leather gloves, and tartan Manolo Blahnik heels, a bold, high-fashion mix of holiday colors. And the internet had thoughts. Lots of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe wore her pajama robe,\u201d one user\u00a0sniped<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another quipped, \u201cWhite bathrobe and red rubber gloves.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBathrobe?\u201d one person asked, with another joking, \u201cIt looks like she\u2019s auditioning to be the angel on top of the tree\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Someone else summed it up bluntly: \u201cShe\u2019s literally wearing a bathrobe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another harsh remark read: \u201cShe got new shoes from Piggy.\u201d<\/p>\n

But plenty of admirers jumped to her defense.<\/p>\n

\u201cMelania is rockin [sic] her plaid stilettos \u2665\ufe0f,\u201d a supporter wrote.<\/p>\n

Another added, \u201cShe has the best shoes. Every.Time [sic].\u201d<\/p>\n

A third asked, \u201cCould FLOTUS be any more glamorous! Simply gorgeous!\u201d<\/p>\n

Others praised her whole presence:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is beautiful and sophisticated. Poise and gracefulness,\u201d one fan said. And another declared, \u201cElegance is back in the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201dCinnamon blonde\u201d<\/h2>\n

Her coat got people arguing, but experts were far more interested in her new hair color, a warm, bright makeover that immediately grabbed attention.<\/p>\n

Suzie McGill of Rainbow Room International told\u00a0Hello!<\/em>\u00a0that the luminous new shade perfectly flattered Melania\u2019s skin tone and delivered a \u201cpolished upgrade\u201d that brightened her appearance without ever looking overdone.<\/p>\n

Kirsty Judge of the Rush Artistic team dubbed the look \u201ccinnamon blonde,\u201d describing it as a luxurious mix of tawny beige, warm acorn undertones, and \u201cvanilla blonde pieces\u201d woven through for added radiance.<\/p>\n

Old controversies resurface<\/h2>\n

But even the chic Dior and the glowing new hair couldn\u2019t completely overshadow the baggage of Christmas past.<\/p>\n

The ceremony reminded many of the secretly recorded 2018 tapes that went public in 2020 on\u00a0Anderson Cooper 360<\/em>, where Melania vented her frustrations about holiday duties and media scrutiny.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m working \u2026 my [expletive] off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a [expletive] about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?\u201d she said in the recording.<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cOK, and then I do it and I say that I\u2019m working on Christmas and planning for the Christmas and they said, \u2018Oh, what about the children that they were separated?\u2019 Give me a f****** break. Where they were saying anything when Obama did that? I can not go, I was trying get the kid reunited with the mom. I didn\u2019t have a chance \u2013 needs to go through the process and through the law.\u201d<\/p>\n

The controversial tapes were secretly recorded by Melania Trump\u2019s former friend and adviser,\u00a0Stephanie Winston Wolkoff<\/a>. Stephanie Grisham, who was Trump\u2019s chief of staff at the time, fired back quickly.<\/p>\n
