His pink spikes were bright in the dark.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">In his arms was something small, wrapped in a thin, ragged blanket. He was bent over it, trying to shield it with his whole body.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">My stomach dropped.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"postComponents_blockquote__q4kp0 postComponents_alternative-view__bRnNf\">\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cJax! What is that?!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">I grabbed the nearest coat, shoved my bare feet into shoes, and tore downstairs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">The cold hit me like a slap as I sprinted across the street.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"postComponents_blockquote__q4kp0\">\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cWhat are you doing?! He\u2019s freezing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cYeah,\u201d Jax said. \u201cI heard him crying when I cut through the park. Thought it was a cat. We need to call 911!\u201d I said. \u201cNow, Jax!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cI already did,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re on their way.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">He pulled the baby closer, wrapping his leather jacket around them both. Underneath he had just a T-shirt.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">He was shaking, but he didn\u2019t seem to care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"postComponents_blockquote__q4kp0 postComponents_alternative-view__bRnNf\">\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">His lips had a blue tinge.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">The bundle took up all his focus.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"postComponents_blockquote__q4kp0\">\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cI\u2019m keeping him warm till they get here. No drama.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">I stepped closer and really looked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">The baby\u2019s skin was blotchy and pale. His lips had a blue tinge. His tiny fists were clenched so tight they looked painful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">He let out a thin, tired cry.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"postComponents_blockquote__q4kp0 postComponents_alternative-view__bRnNf\">\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cYou\u2019re okay. We got you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">I yanked off my scarf and wrapped it around them both, tucking it over the baby\u2019s head and around Jax\u2019s shoulders.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cHey, little man,\u201d Jax murmured. \u201cYou\u2019re okay. We got you. Hang in there. Stay with me, yeah?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">He rubbed slow circles on the baby\u2019s back with his thumb.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">My eyes burned.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote class=\"postComponents_blockquote__q4kp0\">\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cHow long have you been here?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"postComponents_paragraph__0OLfg\">\u201cLike five minutes? Doors slammed.
