I\u2019m Esther, 72 years old, and I\u2019ve been waitressing at the same small-town Texas diner for over 20 years. Most customers are kind. Last Friday, one wasn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

A young woman named Sabrina came in during the lunch rush, live-streaming the entire time. Nothing was good enough\u2014the tea was \u201clukewarm,\u201d the salad \u201cdry,\u201d the service \u201crude.\u201d She ordered freely, complained loudly, and when the $112 check arrived, she announced to her followers that she was being overcharged.<\/p>\n

Then she walked out.<\/p>\n

My manager said we\u2019d comp it. I said no. Disrespect doesn\u2019t earn free meals.<\/p>\n

With the help of a coworker and his bike, I followed her through town\u2014down Main Street, into a grocery store, a shoe shop, a coffee place, the park, and finally a yoga studio. Every time she thought she\u2019d escaped, I calmly reappeared with the receipt.<\/p>\n

\u201cStill waiting on that $112,\u201d I\u2019d say.<\/p>\n

Public opinion turned fast. Strangers told her to pay. Kids pointed and laughed. Eventually, mid\u2013Warrior Two pose, she snapped, shoved the cash into my hands, and begged me to stop following her.<\/p>\n

I counted it. Exact change.<\/p>\n

Back at the diner, the staff cheered. Someone posted the chase online, and by that night I\u2019d gone viral as \u201cThe Respect Sheriff.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sabrina never came back. But she did post an apology video.<\/p>\n

Age doesn\u2019t make you soft. It just gives you better aim\u2014and a longer memory.<\/p>\n
