Homan Says Insurrection Act ‘Viable Option’ For Minnesota Anti-ICE Violence

Former Border Czar Tom Homan has raised the possibility of invoking the Insurrection Act as protests continue in Minneapolis, marking one of the strongest federal responses discussed since unrest began earlier this month.

Demonstrations erupted after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, who was killed on January 7, 2026, during a federal immigration operation. Authorities say an ICE officer fired into Good’s vehicle during a confrontation. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the action, while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey disputed the federal account, citing video footage and questioning the use of lethal force.

The shooting has intensified national debate over immigration enforcement and federal authority. A federal judge has since issued an injunction limiting the use of force against peaceful protesters. Meanwhile, the Justice Department is reportedly reviewing the actions of Minnesota officials over alleged interference with federal enforcement—claims state and city leaders deny.

As unrest continues, supporters argue federal agents need stronger protection, while critics warn that invoking extraordinary powers could escalate tensions and undermine civil liberties.
